Newly elected senators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa take oath

Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday administered the oath to the newly elected senators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A total of eight senators out of 11 elected took the oath during a senate session presided over by Gilani.

Among those who took the oath included senators Talha Mehmood, Rubina Khalid, Faisal Javed, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Dilawar Khan and Attaul Haq. Niaz Ahmed, son of senior PML-N leader Amir Muqam, also took the oath.

After the oath-taking ceremony, Gilani and other senators congratulated the new senators.

Addressing the session, Senator Saifullah Abro criticised Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan, accusing the deputy chairman of disrespecting opposition senators on the floor of the House.

He alleged that the deputy chairman had no knowledge of Senate’s rules and should be informed on parliamentary procedures.

In response, the Senate chairman asked the member to file a written complaint against the deputy chairman.

Addressing the Upper House, Minister of State Bilal Kayani said that the non-filer category must be abolished.

He, however, noted that it is impossible to completely exclude non-filers from the economic system.
