Rains, floods devastate KP, 10 dead including children and women: PDMA

The recent heavy rains and floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have wreaked havoc.

According to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 10 people have died in various accidents, including 6 children, 2 women and 2 men, while two people have been injured, including a woman and a child.

According to the report, the most affected districts include Bajaur, Buner, Upper Chitral, Shangla, Swat and Upper Kohistan. A man and a child were killed in a flash flood in Bajaur, a person lost his life in Buner, while a woman and five children were swept away in a tragic incident in Swat. A woman also lost her life in Upper Kohistan.

According to the PDMA, two houses were completely destroyed due to heavy rains and floods, while eight houses were partially damaged. Rescue operations are underway in the relevant districts.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has warned that more rains are likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the coming days, due to which there is a risk of landslides and flooding in rivers and canals in several areas including Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohat and Hangu.

According to the Met Office, rain fell in Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Nowshera and Kurram yesterday, while 54 mm of rain was recorded in Balakot, 25 mm in Parachinar and 3 mm in Malam Jabba.

The minimum temperature in Peshawar is 29 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is likely to go up to 39 degrees.

The Met Office and PDMA have directed citizens to avoid traveling near hills and canals and to contact the relevant institutions immediately in case of any emergency.
