Tragedy strikes: Shooting targets Majid Sabri Qawwal Group in Balochistan

The recent shooting targeted the renowned “Majid Sabri Qawwal Group” in Balochistan’s Kalat district has left the nation in mourning, deeply affecting fans of Qawwali music across the country.

In the incident three Qawwals were killed in the incident while more than ten people were injured. The deceased include Qawwal Ahmed Sabri, his son Raza Sabri and his partner guitarist Asif.

The bus that was targeted by firing in Kalat yesterday was carrying Qawwals and artists from Karachi who were going to perform Qawwali at a wedding ceremony in Quetta.

According to Majid Sabri, several of his relatives and other members of the team, all of whom were part of the Qawwali team, were also injured in the attack.

According to Kalat police, a private company’s bus going from Karachi to Quetta was targeted on the Quetta-Karachi highway in the Nimrug area of Kalat on Thursday evening. According to him, ‘unknown armed men opened fire on the bus indiscriminately, as a result of which the bus went out of control and fell off the road.’

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Karachi by cargo on Thurday, where a large number of heirs and local residents were present at the airport.

There is a deep sense of mourning in the area and every eye is filled with tears. According to Spokesperson Edhi, the bodies have been kept in the cold storage in consultation with the heirs and if they want, the bodies will also be taken to their homes.

According to reports, the funeral prayers of the martyred qawwalis will be offered today after Asr prayers at the PIB Sports Complex, while the burial will be held at Liaquatabad No. 10 Cemetery.

After this incident in Kalat, there is intense grief and anger among the artist community, family members, fans and citizens in Karachi.
