Rivers claim lives of students in Azad Kashmir amid monsoon surge

Several tragic incidents have been reported across Azad Kashmir, where swollen rivers and streams have claimed the lives of children and young people. In addition to the drownings, a female student lost her life after slipping into a deep ravine.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 22-year-old Shehzad Manzoor drowned while bathing in the Neelum River near Sheikh Bela in Neelum Valley.

In another incident in the same area, a 10-year-old boy named Hasan was swept away by the strong currents of the Jagran stream.

In Dadyal, two young brothers tragically drowned while swimming; local residents later recovered their bodies. Another drowning was reported in Sehnsa, where a young man lost his life.

Meanwhile, in Sharda Valley, a tenth-grade student slipped and fell into a ravine, dying on the spot.

The local administration has confirmed all the incidents and urged residents to exercise caution.

Authorities and rescue teams have appealed to the public to avoid swimming in rivers and streams during the summer season, warning that recent rainfall has significantly increased water flow and heightened the risk of fatal accidents.
