Rainfall of varying intensity hit multiple areas of Karachi on Friday as a fresh monsoon system moved over the city, bringing relief from the heat but raising concerns of urban flooding.
Light to heavy showers were reported in Gulshan-e-Hadid, Kathore, Steel Town, Gadap Town, M9 Motorway, and surrounding localities. Areas like Malir, Safoora Goth, Model Colony, and Saadi Town also experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Rainfall was also recorded in Gurumandir, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Super Highway, and Sohrab Goth. Although much of the city is now under cloud cover, humidity remains high in several areas.
Nazimabad, Defence, Clifton, Kala Pul, and Bizerta Lines also received intense showers.
In Malir, the rain caused severe water accumulation, turning streets into pools of standing water and disrupting daily life for residents.
According to meteorologist Anjum Nazir, Karachi is expected to experience more showers under the influence of the monsoon system from Friday through Sunday. He warned that urban flooding is likely on Saturday due to heavy downpours, while intermittent rain is forecast to continue into Sunday.
The meteorologist further noted the presence of a low-pressure system over Gujarat, India, which is expected to shift towards Sindh in the coming days, potentially bringing widespread rainfall to many cities across the province. As a result, there is an increased risk of urban flooding in several parts of Sindh, he added.
