Ruckus in National Assembly as scuffle breaks out between MNAs

A huge commotion was witnessed during the National Assembly session on Monday when opposition, especially PTI members, staged a noisy protest and attempted to interrupt proceedings during the speech of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

In response, PPP lawmakers warned they would not allow PTI’s Omar Ayub or others to speak if such disruptions continued.

The standoff, during a debate on Senate recommendations, intensified when Speaker Ayaz Sadiq invited Omar Ayub to begin his speech.

PPP members stood up in protest, chanting slogans and refusing to let the opposition speak due to what they termed “disrespect during Bilawal’s address.”

Attempting to defuse the tension, Speaker Ayaz urged PPP members to show restraint, saying, “Two wrongs don’t make a right. Please let Omar Ayub speak.”

However, tempers flared further when PTI’s Iqbal Afridi launched a sharp verbal attack on Bilawal Bhutto, prompting PPP lawmakers to storm toward the Speaker’s dais in anger.

Speaker Sadiq warned Afridi, stating, “You are mistaken if you think you can prevent this Assembly from functioning.”

To restore order, the Speaker asked PML-N’s Tariq Fazal Chaudhry to request Bilawal Bhutto to bring his party members in control and urge PPP members to stand down.

He also postponed the third agenda item temporarily and instructed the finance minister to wrap up the budget debate.

As tensions mounted, the Speaker called the security, saying Iqbal Faridi spoiled the atmosphere.

After PPP members protest, Omar Ayub was not given the microphone, triggering a second wave of protests from the opposition benches.

In the midst of the chaos, government members formed a protective circle around the finance minister, shielding him from the unrest.

During this commotion, a physical altercation reportedly broke out between Iqbal Afridi and PML-N’s Hanif Abbasi, adding to the disorder.
