Federal Minister for Power, Awais Leghari, has instructed all power distribution companies (Discos) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the month of Moharram, particularly during religious gatherings, to prevent any inconvenience to the public.
In a letter addressed to all chairmen and CEOs of Discos, the minister emphasized the importance of reliable power supply during the sacred month, during which millions of mourners across Pakistan attend Majalis and processions in remembrance of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA).
“Since the holy month of Moharram is falling in the month of July and heat waves are expected, it is very much imperative that all necessary measures are taken to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to facilitate these religious gatherings and avoid any inconvenience to the public,” he added.
To ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Moharram, the minister issued the following urgent directives to all chairmen and CEOs of power distribution companies (Discos):
Set up dedicated control centres at all operational levels.
Publicize their contact numbers to facilitate effective coordination and quick response.
Leghari emphasized that the sanctity of Moharram requires utmost dedication and seriousness, adding that any negligence will be dealt with strictly.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating peaceful religious observance by ensuring reliable and respectful service to the public.
