Two killed, 25 injured as stormy weather hits Sindh

After lashing Pakistan’s northern regions, a storm system has now gripped Sindh, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to cities including Hyderabad, Kotri, and Jamshoro. The sudden weather shift, especially in Kotri, caused deadly incidents, leaving two people dead and at least 25 injured.

In Kotri, a 10-year-old boy, Rashid Chandio, lost his life after a wall collapsed near Babar Stop, while another man, Ayaz, died in an accident triggered by strong winds at Brohi Chowk. Several vehicles were damaged, and trees and electricity poles were uprooted in various areas.

Rain also disrupted daily life and power supply in Jamshoro, Kotri, and Hyderabad. Among the injured were two women who were shifted to nearby hospitals.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a countrywide alert for strong winds, hailstorms, and thunderous rain. The advisory warns of potential damage to trees, vehicles, solar panels, and power lines due to the intense weather.

Meanwhile, Garhi Dupatta in Azad Kashmir recorded 17mm of rainfall, and Muzaffarabad received 16mm. Light showers continued intermittently in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Chakwal, Attock, and Balochistan.

The Met Office expects the current weather system to intensify over the next two days.

In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, a dust storm and strong winds followed a day of intense heat, marking a sudden shift in weather. The Met Office had forecast rain and thunderstorms for up to three hours. More rain and windstorms are expected this evening across upper KP, Punjab, and interior Sindh, with a chance of hail at isolated locations.
