Federal govt announces public holiday

The federal government has announced a public holiday on May 28 to mark the historic day known as Youm-e-Takbeer, when Pakistan conducted successful nuclear tests in the hills of Chaghai in 1998.

The Sindh government has also announced a public holiday on May 28.

The provincial government has released a notification about the closure of both government and private institutions.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has also announced that it will be closed on May 28.

Hence, May 28 is recognized as a gazetted holiday nationwide, a decision that was previously communicated by the Cabinet Division last year.

With its successful nuclear tests, Pakistan became the seventh country in the world to possess nuclear weapons and the first in the Islamic world.
