TTAP decides to respond positively to govt talks offer
Pakistan’s opposition alliance, Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), has decided to give a positive response to the government’s offer for negotiations, sources said on Thursday.
The decision was taken during a consultative meeting of alliance leaders held in Islamabad, attended by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Nasir Abbas, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Asad Qaiser, Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry.
Participants held detailed deliberations on the government’s negotiation proposal and reviewed recent statements by senior government figure Rana Sanaullah.
According to alliance sources, Salman Akram Raja, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the central leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) advised alliance heads to formally engage with the government.
Following internal consensus, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas have been authorised to move forward with the negotiation process.
Contacts with key government personalities are expected during the holy month of Ramadan after securing final confidence from allied parties.
Sources said opposition parties agreed to continue dialogue efforts, while a formal declaration of the meeting will be issued soon.
The statement is expected to include a key demand regarding immediate medical treatment and access for PTI founding chairman Imran Khan.
PTI leader Junaid Akbar said political forces believe in dialogue and reconciliation, stressing that national issues should be resolved through negotiations rather than confrontation with state institutions.
He added that meaningful talks require political space and a conducive environment, saying the opposition remains ready for dialogue if the government takes practical steps toward normalising the political situation.
PTI leader Atif Khan confirmed that all allied parties participated in the meeting and unanimously empowered Achakzai and Nasir Abbas to represent the alliance in negotiations.
