Pakistan coach Mike Hesson has called on his team to quickly move past their 61-run loss to India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and focus on securing a win against Namibia to stay in contention for the Super Eights.

The defeat on Sunday left Pakistan with slim chances of advancing, making victory over Namibia in their final Group A match crucial for qualification.

“We’re really disappointed we didn’t play as well as we could, but we’re also part of a tournament, and we know in tournament play that it’s not always going to go your way,” Hesson said.

“So, our job is to pick ourselves up and make sure that we’re very good in two or three days.”

Pakistan managed to restrict India to 175/7 in their 20 overs, but a poor batting performance — losing four wickets inside the Powerplay — saw their run chase falter.

Hesson acknowledged that some players may have struggled with the pressure of a high-stakes match but emphasised the importance of resilience as the tournament continues.

“It’s very much when a guy’s putting you under pressure — are you going to stick to your basics or go away from that? That’s going to be a real challenge because as the tournament progresses, we’ll be put under pressure again,” Hesson said.

He added that trust in decision-making under pressure will be critical for the team’s progress.

“All these guys are international players, they’re all good players, but when the pressure comes on, are they going to trust the decision-making, or go outside that? That’s something we’re going to have to get better at.”

Pakistan will face Namibia on Wednesday in what is now a must-win game to keep their Super Eights hopes alive.
