Imran Khan speaks to sons after court order
The sons of Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, were allowed to speak with him on the phone following a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, jail sources said on Saturday.
According to officials, Khan spoke with his sons, Qasim and Sulaiman, for about 25 minutes. During the conversation, detailed discussions were held regarding his eye condition.
Sources said the call was arranged by jail authorities in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.
Earlier, Barrister Salman Safdar had also met Khan under court directions.
Confirming the development, Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, said on X that the call had taken place and that Khan was “very happy” after hearing his children’s voices.
Health concerns and court proceedings
The development comes amid growing concern over Khan’s health.
Following reports of his deteriorating condition, the Supreme Court had appointed Barrister Salman Safdar as amicus curiae and directed him to submit a report.
In his report presented on Thursday, Safdar stated that Khan had lost approximately 85 per cent of vision in his right eye and required urgent medical treatment.
After the report, PTI and other opposition parties expressed serious reservations and staged a sit-in outside Parliament House, demanding a comprehensive medical examination and permission for Khan’s family to meet him.
According to the court record, Khan had complained of blurred vision in his right eye, which jail authorities allegedly ignored. This later resulted in the formation of a blood clot.
The Supreme Court has approved the recommendations in the report and directed authorities to constitute a medical board by February 16 to conduct Khan’s medical assessment.
Support from former cricketers
Several former international cricketers have also voiced concern over Khan’s health.
Former captain Wasim Akram wrote on X, “It is heartbreaking to hear our skipper Imran Khan going through health issues. I sincerely hope the authorities take this seriously and ensure he receives the best possible medical care. Wishing him strength, a speedy recovery, and a full return to good health. possible medical care. Wishing him strength, a speedy recovery, and a full return to good health.”
Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar posted, “The last 3 months I’ve been raising funds in USA for Imran Khan’s Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. I’m deeply saddened to hear the news of him losing vision in his eye. I hope he gets the best treatment and I’m wishing him a speedy recovery.”
Akhtar referred to fundraising efforts for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.
Former captain Shahid Afridi also said in a video message that health is Khan’s fundamental right and that he should be allowed to receive treatment wherever he and his family deem appropriate.
Ongoing demands
PTI leaders and opposition members continue to demand an independent medical examination and improved access for Khan’s family. They have also called on authorities to ensure the transparent implementation of court orders.
Jail sources reiterated that the latest phone call was arranged strictly under Supreme Court instructions and that investigations and medical arrangements are continuing in line with judicial directions.
