The first day of Ramazan in Pakistan is likely to fall on February 19, as the crescent is expected to be visible to the naked eye on February 18, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) said on Saturday.

According to a SUPARCO spokesperson, the new moon of Ramadzan will be born on February 17 at 5.01 p.m.

By sunset on February 18, the moon’s age will be approximately 25 hours and 48 minutes, which is considered suitable for visibility.

On this basis, there is a strong likelihood that the crescent will be sighted that evening.

Based on scientific calculations, SUPARCO expects the moon to be visible on the evening of February 18, paving the way for the beginning of Ramazan in Pakistan on February 19.

However, the spokesperson clarified that the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement on the moon’s sighting, as SUPARCO’s statement is based solely on scientific estimates.

The public has been advised to wait for the official announcement following the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s meeting regarding the commencement of Ramazan.
