Kohat was spared a major disaster after an explosive-filled vehicle was defused before reaching its target, police said on Friday.

More than 50 kilograms of explosives were attached to the detonator, while the number plate on the vehicle is registered to Peshawar

Security was put on high alert after authorities received information about a suspicious vehicle in the area.

The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) disabled the explosive-laden vehicle before it could reach its intended target, District Police Officer (DPO) Shahbaz Elahi said.

A heavy contingent of police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

According to DPO Shahbaz Elahi, security has been placed on high alert in the area, with instructions issued to tighten security at checkpoints and blockades and to monitor the city’s entry and exit routes closely.

Security sources said the search operation by police and security forces in the area has been completed.
