NDMA issues nationwide alert for rain and snow

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for rain and snowfall in most districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir from February 8 to 10.

According to the NDMA advisory, rainfall is expected in various areas of Punjab, including Murree and other mountainous regions, on February 9 and 10.

Districts expected to receive showers include Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khushab, Jhang, Narowal, and Sialkot.

Southern districts of Punjab may also experience hail accompanied by strong winds, the NDMA added.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and snowfall in hilly areas is forecast from February 9 to 10.

Affected regions include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Malakand, Kurram, Waziristan, Mansehra, Mohmand, Buner, Haripur, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Sawabi, Karak, Bannu, and Kohat.

Rain and snow are also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir during the same period, with snowfall likely in higher-altitude areas.

The NDMA warned that slippery roads and disrupted traffic are possible due to rain and snow.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during this period and to follow precautionary measures.

The NDMA said that relevant authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert in view of potential hazards.
