World leaders condemn Islamabad suicide attack

Several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Australia, and Germany, have strongly condemned the suicide attack in Islamabad.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also issued a strong condemnation of the blast in the federal capital.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for the messages of sympathy and solidarity received from across the world following the Islamabad suicide bombing.

He said those responsible for the “barbaric act” would be brought to justice with the full force of the law.

It may be recalled that at least 32 people were martyred and more than 150 others were injured in a suicide bombing during Friday prayers at Masjid Khadijat-ul-Kubra in the Tarlai area of Islamabad on Friday.

UN condemns attack

In a statement, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack in the strongest of words.

He reiterated that attacks against civilians and places of worship were unacceptable, stressing that those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.

Reaffirming the UN’s solidarity with Pakistan in its efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, Guterres extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a full and speedy recovery to those injured.

Saudi Arabia stands with Pakistan

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the suicide attack carried out in Islamabad.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Saudi foreign ministry said that the Kingdom stands with Pakistan during this difficult time.

The statement emphasised that targeting places of worship, spreading fear among peaceful civilians, and shedding the blood of innocent people are completely unacceptable.

Reaffirming its firm stance against all forms of terrorism and extremism, Saudi Arabia expressed full solidarity with Pakistan.

The ministry also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs, the Government of Pakistan, and the Pakistani people, and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.

US condemns terrorist attack

The United States strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Islamabad that left innocent worshippers dead and injured.

In a statement, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker said Washington condemns all acts of terrorism and violence, including the attack, and termed violence against civilians and places of worship as unacceptable.

Expressing condolences on behalf of the United States, Baker extended sympathies to the families and loved ones of those killed and to those injured in the attack.

Outraged and heartbroken: UK

UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott also condemned the Islamabad suicide blast and said she is “outraged and heartbroken” by the horrific attack.

She extended her thoughts and prayers to those killed and injured and to their families.

The British envoy termed such violence abhorrent and expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan in the wake of the tragedy.

China expresses sorrow

Expressing deep sorrow over the Islamabad suicide blast, which claimed the lives of civilians, the Chinese Embassy extended heartfelt condolences to the victims.

The embassy also conveyed sincere sympathies to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The embassy emphasised China’s solidarity with Pakistan, stating that it stands firmly with its Pakistani brothers and sisters during this difficult time.

Turkey expresses solidarity

Turkey condemned the suicide blast in the strongest terms and extended condolences to the families of those killed and to the people of Pakistan.

In a statement, Turkey’s foreign ministry expressed solidarity with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.

Afghanistan condemns blast

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the suicide bombing and expressed grief over the death of civilians.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, a spokesperson of Afghanistan’s foreign ministry, said that Kabul condemned such attacks that violate the sanctity of sacred rituals and mosques and target worshippers and innocent people.

Qatar expresses grief

The Gulf state of Qatar also denounced the terrorist attack in Islamabad and showed solidarity with Pakistan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm stance against violence, terrorism, and criminal acts, regardless of the motives or reasons, emphasising its complete rejection of targeting places of worship and terrorising innocent civilians.

PM Shehbaz expresses gratitude

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for the strong messages of sympathy and support that were received from across the globe in the wake of the suicide attack in Islamabad.

In a post on X, he said, “I am grateful for the strong messages of sympathy and support that we have received from across the globe, in the wake of today’s heart-wrenching suicide attack in Islamabad. The support of our friends and partners has always remained critical in Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.”

“The perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice with full force, and their nefarious designs will never be allowed to succeed,” he said, adding, “The brave Pakistani nation stands united at this time, and we remain fully committed to our resolve to defeat terrorism, as we always have.”
