CM Maryam inaugurates Punjab Transport Company HQ, EV command centre
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday inaugurated the Punjab Transport Company headquarters and the Electric Vehicle (EV) Command and Control Centre, reiterating the government’s commitment to clean, safe, and modern public transport.
Following the inauguration, the chief minister inspected the EV Command and Control Centre, a state-of-the-art electric bus washing plant, and a modern charging station. Officials briefed her that the automatic washing plant reuses recycled water, while a 160-kilowatt charging station can fully charge an electric bus in 105 minutes.
CM Maryam directed authorities to introduce new routes for green electric buses, shift the charging system to solar energy, and add more buses to meet rising passenger demand. She also sought a timeline for the procurement of 1,500 new buses.
The chief minister instructed officials to increase the number of buses on routes where passengers face long waiting times and ordered the claiming of carbon credits under the Green Bus Project.
She said electric buses were helping reduce air pollution and smog, adding that the green bus project had broken ridership records across Punjab. She announced that metro bus services would be launched soon in Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
CM Maryam said electric buses were providing comfortable and safe travel to the public and stressed that clean, secure, and modern public transport remained the government’s top priority.
