Non-bailable arrest warrants issued for Sohail Afridi
An Islamabad district and sessions court on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi in a case related to alleged misleading statements against state institutions.
Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah issued the warrants after taking notice of CM Afridi’s repeated failure to appear before the court despite summons. The judge directed law enforcement authorities to arrest the accused and produce him before the court.
The court also adjourned further proceedings in the case until February 10.
According to court records, a case has been registered against CM Afridi under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly making statements that harmed the credibility and reputation of state institutions.
The case was lodged by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
The court observed that continued non-compliance with its orders left no option but to issue non-bailable warrants to ensure the accused’s presence.
