Rescue and search operations continued for the ninth consecutive day on Sunday at Karachi’s Gul Plaza shopping centre, where a devastating incident occurred earlier this month.

A technical investigation team from the federal government, including experts from NED University, visited the site on Sunday.

According to sources, the team met with district administration officials and inspected various sections of the affected building to examine the damage caused by the devastating fire.

The team marked several locations inside the building to indicate areas where search operations had been completed in order to avoid further risk.

Hazard markings, including “H” signs, were placed to signal danger or the possibility of structural collapse.

Human remains recovered

Meanwhile, the sources said that human remains were recovered from Gul Plaza late Saturday night.

A Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) team is overseeing the identification process to ensure swift confirmation of victims’ identities.

Officials stated that due to the fragile condition of the building, all operations are being carried out with extreme caution, with the safety of civilians and rescue personnel remaining the top priority.

Several sections of the building have already been thoroughly searched, but efforts to locate additional human remains are ongoing.

82 people still missing

Rescue teams were making every possible effort to trace missing persons.

According to authorities, the death toll from the Gul Plaza tragedy has now risen to 73, while 82 people remain missing.

Deputy Commissioner South said that rescue and recovery operations are expected to be completed later today.

Bodies of family members identified

Amid the ongoing rescue and search operations at Karachi’s Gul Plaza, authorities on Sunday confirmed the identities of four members of a single family who lost their lives in the devastating fire.

Six members of the affected family, who belonged to Karachi’s Delhi Colony, had gone missing after they were trapped in the Gul Plaza fire.

The missing included 32-year-old Mohammad Saad, 35-year-old Misbah Parveen, 14-year-old Maryam, 30-year-old Nimra, and 30-year-old Irfan.

Following DNA sample matches, the bodies of four family members have now been identified, while the identification of two members is still pending.

Officials said the identified bodies will be handed over to their relatives today (Sunday), with funeral prayers scheduled for 3pm at the Eidgah Ground in Delhi Colony.

With this development, the total number of identified victims in the Gul Plaza fire has reached 28.
