Peace committee member among 7 killed in D I Khan suicide blast

At least seven people were killed and seven others injured in a suicide blast during a wedding ceremony at the residence of Peace Committee head Noor Alam Mehsud in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday.

Among the deceased are Peace Committee leader Abdul Waheed, Advocate Abdul Majeed, Rehmanullah, Shehzad, Inayat and others.

The injured included Noor Alam Mehsud, Tauheedullah, Rehman Khan, Suhail Khan and others.

The blast occurred in the Qureshi Mor area, near the wedding venue, according to police sources.

Initial reports indicate that the casualties include both men and women attending the event.

Police said the blast could have been a suicide attack, though investigations were still underway.

According to local sources, an emergency has been declared at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan.

Rescue officials said the bodies of the victims and the injured have been shifted to the hospital.

Initial reports suggest the blast was carried out due to personal enmity linked to extortion.

Meanwhile, the District Bar Association has expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Advocate Abdul Majeed Mehsud.

On this occasion, the district bar announced a period of mourning during which court proceedings would also remain suspended.
