Tirah Valley rescue operation: 60 people, 25 vehicles brought to safety
Rescue operations continued on Friday in Tirah Valley of Khyber district after heavy snowfall, rain, and landslides left dozens of people stranded in remote areas, officials said.
According to the Director Operations Rescue, at least 60 affected individuals and 25 vehicles have so far been safely recovered from the snow-hit areas of Tirah, Painda Cheena, Dawatoi and Bagh Maidan.
More than 100 trained rescue personnel, along with 23 emergency vehicles and heavy machinery, are taking part in the operation.
Rescue teams from Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera are also assisting local responders, while senior rescue officials are personally supervising the relief activities in the affected areas.
Officials said stranded people are being provided on-site medical assistance, medicines, food and blankets.
Areas including the Frontier Check Post, Painda Cheena, Naray Baba, Sandana and Mehraban have been cleared, while rescue work is still underway in Dawatoi, Tan and Bagh Maidan Bazaar.
The operation follows severe weather conditions that earlier left around 100 vehicles stranded across different parts of Tirah Valley.
A special emergency ward has been established at Hayatabad Medical Complex to provide immediate medical care to the injured, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has placed hospitals on high alert, ensuring the availability of doctors and paramedical staff round the clock.
Emergency, surgical, orthopaedics and blood bank services have been fully activated, with sufficient medicines and medical supplies stocked.
The Pakistan Army and local administration are also assisting residents with temporary evacuations.
Earlier, at least 20 people were rescued and shifted to safer locations, while food, warm shelter, and other essentials were arranged without disruption.
He said rescue teams equipped with ambulances and heavy machinery were working continuously to restore access.
According to the PDMA, snowfall has blocked the Tirah road, prompting district administrations to intensify rescue and relief operations.
Rescue 1122 has deployed additional personnel, ambulances, recovery vehicles and equipment from Peshawar, while 10 trucks carrying blankets, warm clothing and bedding have been dispatched to the affected areas.
The Director General PDMA has directed all district administrations to remain on alert and closely monitor the situation across the province.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid non-essential travel during snowfall and cooperate with rescue teams to ensure safety.
