Cold wave tightens grip across Pakistan, Karachi shivers at 8°C

A sharp increase in cold weather has been recorded across Pakistan, disrupting daily life in several cities, with Karachi seeing its minimum temperature drop to 8 degrees Celsius, while colder winds made it feel as low as 4 degrees Celsius.

Due to the intense cold, traffic movement in Karachi remained noticeably thin during the night and early morning hours.

Cold winds continued through the night, while fewer people were seen visiting parks for morning exercise.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperatures in different parts of Karachi remained low.

The lowest temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bin Qasim, while Jinnah Terminal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar recorded minimum temperatures of 10.5 degrees Celsius.

On Shahrya Faisal, the temperature stood at 11.5 degrees Celsius.

The current temperature in the city is 12 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 36 percent and northwesterly winds blowing at eight kilometres per hour.

The Met Office forecast the maximum temperature in Karachi to reach around 22 degrees Celsius, with overall dry weather conditions and continued cold during the night.

Meanwhile, severe cold persists in Balochistan.

Quetta recorded a temperature of minus 9 degrees Celsius, with the cold felt as low as minus 14 degrees.

In Chaman, the temperature dropped to minus 6 degrees Celsius, while the perceived temperature fell to minus 12 degrees.

In other parts of the province, Sibbi recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius and Turbat 8 degrees.

Nokundi saw temperatures touch the freezing point, while Chaman’s minimum temperature was recorded at minus 5 degrees Celsius.

Coastal areas of Balochistan remained comparatively milder, with Gwadar recording 10 degrees Celsius and Jiwani 12 degrees.

The Meteorological Department said the cold and dry weather pattern is expected to continue over the next few days and advised citizens to take precautionary measures.
