IMF chief lauds Pakistan’s reform drive as PM meets global leaders at Davos
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has appreciated Pakistan’s reform efforts and stressed the need to sustain reform momentum to ensure long-term economic resilience.
She made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the prime minister briefed the IMF chief on Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators, ongoing stabilisation measures and progress on structural reforms.
He underscored the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, revenue mobilisation and sustainable economic growth.
Both sides also exchanged views on the global economic outlook, challenges confronting emerging economies and the importance of multilateral support in safeguarding economic stability.
Palestine PM thanks Pakistan
Separately, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa expressed his heartfelt gratitude to PM Shehbaz for Pakistan’s consistent, principled and unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of the WEF, where Mohammad Mustafa personally walked up to the Pakistani prime minister, introduced himself and conveyed his appreciation.
The Palestinian prime minister thanked Pakistan for supporting the Palestinian position at international forums and acknowledged Islamabad’s continued role in advocating for the Palestinian cause.
Pakistan has repeatedly voiced its support for the rights of the Palestinian people and has called for a just and lasting resolution in line with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
