The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of rain in Karachi on January 22 and 23, with a possibility of thunderstorms.

According to Director of Meteorological Department Anjum Nazir Zia, a strong westerly wind system is expected to start affecting the upper regions of the country from Saturday, with its impact potentially reaching the southern areas in the coming days.

He mentioned that this weather system is expected to bring rain to Karachi, which could turn the weather chilly.

Meanwhile, winter’s first snowfall has lashed Skardu and its surrounding areas in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The heavy snowfall has blocked several roads in the hilly regions, causing traffic disruptions.

In places like Deosai, Siachen, and the K2 Valley, snow has accumulated up to two feet, and the entire area is in the grip of an intense cold wave.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a warning, advising people to avoid unnecessary travel in these mountainous areas until January 21 due to the extreme weather conditions.

With roads now covered in snow and becoming dangerously slippery, there’s also a real risk of landslides in some spots.

Authorities have urged both locals and tourists to be wary of dangerous road conditions.

The harsh weather has also caused the cancellation of a PIA flight from Islamabad to Skardu, leaving passengers stranded.

Officials have assured that flights will resume as soon as the weather clears up.
