Seven dead, one injured as landslide hits Kohat

At least seven people were killed, and one was injured when a landslide struck a mountainous area near the Qamar Khel neighbourhood of Gumbat tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district, officials said.

According to Rescue 1122, a total of 30 rescue personnel took part in the operation, with three ambulances and a disaster response vehicle deployed at the scene.

Heavy machinery and manual tools were used to retrieve victims trapped under the debris.

Rescue workers cleared the affected site after several hours of effort.

The injured labourer was given first aid at the scene and later shifted to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be receiving treatment.

Authorities said the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after completing legal formalities.

A sense of grief is prevailing in the area after the incident as families and neighbours struggle to come to terms with the loss.

Authorities in the area have begun assessing the situation to prevent further danger.
