The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the first winter rainfall in Karachi is expected on December 30.

In its weather forecast, the Met Office said that the minimum temperature over the past 24 hours was recorded at 12°C in Karachi.

Balochistan, including Quetta, continued to experience cold weather, the PMD said, adding that rain in various parts of the province and snowfall in mountainous areas were expected over the next 24 hours.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel to prevent any potential difficulties.

The Meteorological Department also reported that western winds are expected to enter the country from December 29.

Under their influence, several regions may experience rain accompanied by strong winds from December 30 to January 2.

According to the PMD, the rainfall is likely to reduce smog and fog in affected areas.

Meanwhile, most parts of Punjab remained affected by air pollution on Sunday.

According to an international website, Lahore’s Kahna area recorded the highest pollution level with 568 particulate matter (PM) readings.

Other cities recorded high levels as well: Gujranwala 487 PM, Faisalabad 452 PM, Lahore 311 PM, and Multan 262 PM.
