Field Marshal Asim Munir declared most effective strategic leader in changing global system
The British newspaper Financial Times has described Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as an emerging and highly effective strategic leader in the evolving global order, highlighting his role in steering Pakistan’s multi-dimensional foreign policy amid rapid geopolitical change.
In an article analysing shifting global politics, the Financial Times said the changing international system has ushered in a new but complex era for so-called “middle powers”, where effective, flexible and multi-aligned strategies have become increasingly vital.
The newspaper noted that Field Marshal Asim Munir has emerged as one of the most successful “multi-aligners” among middle powers, demonstrating an ability to navigate competing global interests while advancing Pakistan’s diplomatic objectives.
The report said that Pakistan simultaneously maintained active relations with the US, China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, which created new diplomatic avenues for Pakistan.
The paper described this approach as a successful example of middle-power diplomacy.
The article also credited Field Marshal Asim Munir with achieving strong alignment with US President Donald Trump’s informal diplomatic style, saying his timely outreach, courteous engagement and measured tone proved effective in advancing Pakistan’s interests.
The Financial Times observed that Pakistan’s diplomatic gains under this approach have frustrated India, which has struggled to craft a similarly effective middle-power strategy.
The newspaper said India found it difficult to adapt to changing global dynamics and Trump’s unconventional approach, making the middle-power role more challenging than expected for New Delhi.
Overall, the Financial Times said that Field Marshal Asim Munir has played a central role in successfully advancing Pakistan’s multi-pronged foreign policy and diplomacy, emerging as a prominent strategic leader in the rapidly changing global order.
