PTI announces protest plans as Imran Khan vows to stand firm after 17-year sentence
Former prime minister Imran Khan has said he is prepared to go to the “last extent” for the freedom of the people even if it costs him his life.
In a message after his conviction in the Toshakhana case -II, the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf founder made it clear that he would not retreat “even an inch” from his stance“.
Earlier, an accountability court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison each in the Toshakhana-II case.
Imran Khan conveyed his message from jail through PTI leaders whom he met at Adiala jail for a hearing.
The message was shared with the media by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja during a press conference alongside Asad Qaiser and Sheikh Waqas Akram.
Salman Akram Raja said that before the hearing at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan had a brief meeting with his lawyer, Salman Safdar, during which he stated that he would either secure freedom for the people or be ready to make the ultimate sacrifice.
According to Raja, Khan made it clear that he would not retreat “even an inch” from his stance.
The PTI secretary-general alleged that Imran Khan is currently being held in solitary confinement, calling it unacceptable in any civilised society.
He said that no former prime minister in the world is treated in such a manner.
Raja also claimed that preparations are underway to initiate another “fake” case against Imran Khan, with proceedings to be conducted via video link, which he described as yet another example of politically motivated decisions.
He also criticised the authorities for not allowing Imran Khan’s family members or lawyers to attend court proceedings, calling the restriction highly condemnable.
Raja rejected government claims that Khan has access to meetings with his family and legal team, terming such statements “completely false.”
According to Raja, Imran Khan believes the public must stand up for their rights, as he feels the judiciary has disappointed him.
He said Khan is of the view that all avenues for justice have been closed and there is no longer any hope of relief from the judicial system.
Addressing the press conference, Raja appealed to the public to rise against what he described as an “unjust” system.
He said that despite hardships and what he termed fabricated cases, Imran Khan remains steadfast with the nation and will not compromise on his stance for freedom.
Raja also announced that PTI is beginning preparations for a protest movement on the streets and will continue to demand justice.
He expressed concern over the arrest of Bushra Bibi, alleging that she is being targeted solely because of her association with Imran Khan.
The PTI leader alleged that the government’s policies were widening the gap between the rich and the poor, claiming that the current system benefits the elite at the expense of ordinary citizens.
