DNA tests confirm owner Asad among three bodies; identities of two more victims verified

Police on Monday confirmed the death of Asad, the owner of the Hyderabad fireworks factory that was destroyed in a powerful explosion over the weekend, bringing the death toll to 10.

According to investigators, Asad was present inside the factory at the time of the blast. His identity was established after DNA samples provided by his son matched remains recovered from the site. The SSP Hyderabad also verified the development.

Police said DNA tests were conducted on three bodies, including two that were initially unidentifiable.

In addition to Asad, the other victims have now been identified as Faisal and Rizwan.

The case of the explosion, registered at B-Section Police Station, had already nominated Asad and his partners. Authorities say the investigation will proceed despite his death.

Earlier, two injured victims, 45-year-old Shiraz and 35-year-old Naeem, died at a Karachi hospital.

Three others remain in critical condition at Civil Hospital Hyderabad. The blast on Saturday ripped through the fireworks unit located near the riverbank in Leghari Goth, Latifabad No. 10.

The explosion, heard from several kilometres away, levelled the building and trapped workers under the debris.

Rescue teams, police, and Rangers pulled bodies and injured survivors from the rubble during an hours-long operation.
