Veteran bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal dies at 98

Veteran Bollywood icon Kamini Kaushal, regarded as India’s oldest living film actress until her death, has passed away at the age of 98.

Her career lasted more than seven decades, from the golden age of Hindi cinema to modern movies.

Born as Uma Kashyap in Lahore in February 1927, she made her screen debut in Neecha Nagar (1946), which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.

She gave great performances in movies like Biraj Bahu, for which she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1956. Later, she was in current hits like Kabir Singh (2019) and Laal Singh Chaddha (2022).

Kaushal also made a mark on Indian television.

Her Doordarshan show, Chand Sitare, became quite famous and introduced a new generation of viewers to her beauty and presence on screen.

Her death signals the end of a great time in Indian cinema, when black-and-white classics gave way to the current multiplex period.

Tributes have poured in from the film fraternity, celebrating her talent, elegance, and enduring influence on screen.

Her family has requested privacy during their mourning.

Kamini Kaushal’s legacy lives on in her films, which have influenced generations of actors and fans alike. Her life was completely dedicated to movies.
