Cabinet approves amendments to military service acts
The federal cabinet on Thursday approved amendments to the Pakistan Army Act, Pakistan Air Force Act, and Pakistan Navy Act to align the laws governing the armed forces with the recently enacted 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saw the premier express gratitude to all cabinet members for their role in the passage of the 27th Amendment.
According to an official statement, the amendments are aimed at harmonising the service laws with the constitutional changes introduced under Article 243.
Under the amendments, the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be abolished after the retirement of the incumbent chairman.
The revised laws also introduce new ranks, including Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, and Admiral of the Fleet.
The statement added that these changes have been proposed in line with contemporary defence and modern warfare requirements.
The cabinet also approved the draft of the Federal Constitutional Court (Procedure and Practice) Act, 2025, and ratified the decisions taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in its meeting held on November 7, 2025.
