Dreams cut short: Young food delivery rider crushed to death by truck in Karachi
A 20-year-old food delivery rider, Babar, was killed in a horrific traffic accident near Landi Kotal Chowrangi in North Nazimabad late Tuesday night, when he was struck by a car and then crushed under a truck loaded with steel rods.
According to police, the fatal incident occurred as Babar was on his way to deliver an order.
The truck driver has been arrested, while the car driver fled the scene and remains at large. A case has been registered on the complaint of Babar’s uncle, Sadiq Hussain.
Babar, the fourth among seven siblings, was known for his tireless efforts to support his family.
His father, Hanif, said the young man worked three jobs to help meet household expenses. He was a tailor in the morning, ran a chips stall in the evening, and delivered food at night.
“Babar was the most hardworking among my children,” Hanif said tearfully.
Family members said his mother’s health deteriorated after hearing the news of his death.
Babar’s uncle lamented that “ordinary citizens keep dying while heavy vehicles return to the roads within days, no one is held accountable.”
His tailoring instructor, Sanaullah, remembered him as “a dedicated worker who was like my own son.”
Police said further investigation is under way.
