Justice Mansoor urges CJP to engage govt over 27th Amendment
Senior Supreme Court judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, urging him to immediately engage with the government (executive) as the head of the judiciary.
In his letter, Justice Shah stated that the Chief Justice should make it clear that no constitutional amendment can be made without consulting judges of the constitutional courts.
He also proposed convening a convention comprising judges of the constitutional courts to deliberate on the matter.
“You are not merely the administrator of this institution but also its guardian,” Justice Shah wrote, adding that the moment demanded leadership from the Chief Justice.
The letter emphasised that as head of the judiciary, the Chief Justice must take a firm stand and assert that constitutional amendments require judicial consultation to ensure institutional integrity and constitutional balance.
