US President Donald Trump has appeared to soften his stance toward newly elected New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, saying, “Let’s see how he performs in New York — we’ll help him a little.”

Speaking at a business forum in Miami, President Trump effectively reversed his earlier position and announced cooperation with the new mayor, despite previously vowing to withhold federal funding if Mamdani won.

“By electing the left-wing Zohran Mamdani, the people of New York have lost America’s ‘sovereignty,’” Trump said, adding that “a communist has become the mayor of the country’s largest city.”

“We’ll see what steps he takes. We want New York to succeed,” the US President remarked.

During his speech, Trump also touched on global military power, claiming that the United States remains the world’s top nuclear power.

“Russia is second, and China is third,” he said, while expressing dislike for having to admit it.

The president predicted that “in four to five years, China will be on par with us,” and said it remains to be seen whether a trilateral arms reduction plan among the three nations will succeed.

At the end of his speech, President Trump even broke into a brief dance, drawing laughter from the audience.

It is worth noting that before the election, Trump had warned that if Mamdani were elected mayor, his administration would not release federal funds for New York’s projects.
