Two more die of dengue in Hyderabad, including 16-month-old boy
Dengue continues to claim lives in Hyderabad, where two more patients, including a 16-month-old boy, died of the mosquito-borne virus, health officials confirmed on Wednesday.
With the latest fatalities, the dengue death toll in Sindh has climbed to 34 since October 1. Both victims were under treatment at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad.
According to hospital sources, the deceased were identified as 16-month-old Shahjahan, who had been receiving treatment for the past nine days, and 33-year-old Sajjad Ali, who was admitted on Tuesday but could not survive.
Officials said Hyderabad also reported 622 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours, indicating a sharp rise in infections across the city.
Sindh reports 1,130 new dengue cases in 24 hours
Earlier, the Sindh Health Department has reported 1,130 new dengue cases across the province over the past 24 hours, according to the latest official data released on Wednesday.
A total of 5,511 dengue tests were conducted province-wide, with 3,937 of them carried out in Karachi. Of these, 527 samples from Karachi tested positive for the mosquito-borne virus.
Health officials said 129 new patients were admitted to government hospitals, while 126 were admitted to private healthcare facilities during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 96 patients were discharged from public hospitals and 111 from private hospitals after recovering.
In Karachi, 256 beds have been reserved for dengue patients in government hospitals, while private hospitals have allocated 185 beds.
In Hyderabad, 208 beds have been designated, and 66 more are available in other parts of Sindh.
According to Health Secretary Rehan Baloch, a total of 37 laboratories are currently conducting dengue testing in Karachi, including 12 public and 25 private labs.
