Rano moved from Karachi Zoo to Islamabad rehabilitation centre
Rano, previously housed at Karachi Zoo, has been successfully relocated to the Islamabad Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, officials said on Wednesday.
According to a spokesperson for the Wildlife Department, staff at the rehabilitation centre warmly welcomed Rano upon arrival.
The transfer was carried out in compliance with directives from the Sindh High Court, which had ordered the relocation to ensure the animal’s welfare.
Officials said a detailed assessment of Rano’s physical condition, behavioural response, and mental fitness will now be conducted.
A deputy conservator-rank officer has been assigned to supervise Rano’s care and rehabilitation.
Earlier, Rano was flown from Karachi to Islamabad aboard a C-130 aircraft from Faisal Base under special protocol.
The operation was part of a two-phase relocation plan. In the second phase, authorities plan to eventually release Rano into a protected natural environment in Gilgit-Baltistan.
