Zardari arrives in Qatar to attend World Summit for Social Development

Pakistan’s leader will present welfare initiatives, including BISP, and meet global dignitaries on sidelines of Doha event

President Asif Ali Zardari arrived here in the wee hours of Tuesday on a three-day official visit to participate in the World Summit for Social Development.

At the Hamad International Airport, the president and his delegation were welcomed by senior Qatari officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Doha.

At the Summit, the president will highlight Pakistan’s initiatives regarding social development and inclusive economic growth, including the role of the Benazir Income Support Programme in social protection, poverty reduction, and empowering vulnerable segments.

He will also discuss Pakistan’s role in the launch of the Doha Alliance, Social Protection and Jobs Compact, and projects aligned with global development commitments.

President Zardari will emphasise the importance of securing financial resources for social and environmental changes, SDG Stimulus, and other global initiatives.

On the sidelines of the Summit, he will also hold meetings with various global and regional leaders and representatives of international organisations.

Hosted by the State of Qatar, the Summit will be attended by world leaders to redouble global efforts toward achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which will follow the adoption of the Doha Political Declaration at the conclusion.
