IndiGo flight from Jeddah to Hyderabad diverted to Mumbai after bomb threat
An IndiGo flight from Jeddah to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai Airport on Saturday after receiving a fake bomb threat, which referred to a “1984 Madras Airport-style attack,” Indian media reported.
According to an IndiGo statement, Flight 6E 68, which departed from Jeddah on November 1, 2025, was diverted as a precautionary measure after the airline received a security threat message mid-flight.
The airline said that the relevant authorities were immediately informed and extended full cooperation to ensure a thorough security inspection of the aircraft.
The airline added that it took all necessary measures to minimise passenger inconvenience, including providing refreshments and regular updates during the delay.
Following comprehensive security checks at Mumbai Airport, authorities cleared the flight for onward travel, confirming that no explosive device was found and all passengers were safe.
Indian media reported that the threat came via an email, warning of a blast similar to the 1984 Meenambakkam bombing at Madras (now Chennai) Airport, which killed 33 people. The 1984 attack was later linked to the Sri Lankan separatist group Tamil Eelam Army.
Authorities are investigating the source of the email and have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the false alarm.
