Maryam Nawaz’s housing scheme achieves record milestone in October
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s flagship housing initiative, Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar, has achieved a new milestone with the highest number of loan disbursements recorded in a single month since its launch, officials said on Saturday.
According to the Punjab Housing Department, 18,041 families received loans under the scheme in October, marking a record-breaking month for the programme.
The department reported that 9,271 houses were completed during the same period, while 68,218 homes are currently under construction.
Since the programme’s inception, 104,816 families have benefited from the housing loans, and 28,382 families have completed their home construction, the department added.
The data also shows a 588% increase in daily home construction between May and October, with the average number of houses built per day now exceeding 289.
A spokesperson for the Punjab government said that the target of providing loans to 100,000 families within a year has been achieved in just 10 months, adding that the province is on track to meet its five-year goal of constructing 500,000 homes for deserving families.
Over Rs126 billion has so far been spent on the initiative, which aims to provide low-income families with financial assistance to build or own their homes.
