Record surge in tax return filings as 5.9 million Pakistanis submit returns this year
Pakistan recorded a historic increase in tax return filings this year, with 5.9 million individuals submitting their tax returns by October 31, 2025, marking a 17.6% rise compared to 5 million returns filed last year, according to a statement issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The FBR said that 3.6 million taxpayers filed their returns along with tax payments, showing an 18.6% increase compared to the previous year.
The revenue collected with these returns also saw a notable jump, rising by Rs9 billion to reach Rs69 billion, up from Rs60 billion last year, reflecting a 15% increase in tax payments.
FBR officials attributed the growth to enhanced digital facilitation, public awareness campaigns, and strict enforcement measures that encouraged compliance.
