Bilawal again delays announcement of new AJK prime minister

PPP completes consultations; formal announcement expected in Muzaffarabad amid alliance talks and power-sharing negotiations.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has once again delayed announcing the name of the new Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), though party sources say Chaudhry Yaseen has been finalised as the nominee for the top slot.

According to sources at Zardari House, internal consultations within the party have been completed, and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is expected to make a formal announcement in Muzaffarabad soon.

Party leaders said the delay was aimed at finalising discussions with allied groups and developing a consensus on the next phase of political strategy in the region.

Speaking to the media after a meeting at Zardari House in Islamabad, Bilawal said the PPP had always championed the Kashmir cause at every forum, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

“The foundation of the PPP rests on the Kashmir cause. For three generations, our party has stood by the people of Kashmir,” he said.

He noted that the last AJK elections were held during the PTI government and alleged that the PPP’s victory was turned into a defeat.

“Due to conspiracies, a political vacuum has been created in Azad Kashmir, harming the Kashmir cause,” he added.

Bilawal reiterated that the PPP was in a position to form a government in AJK, saying, “We want the current assembly to complete its term, and we will strive to meet the expectations of the people. I promise the Kashmiri people that I will not disappoint them and will continue to represent their cause globally.”

PML-N declines to join new AJK govt

Meanwhile, sources said the PML-N has once again declined PPP’s offer to join the new coalition government in AJK. Party insiders stated that even if PPP assures early elections before the assembly’s term ends, PML-N will not take part in any power-sharing arrangement.

However, PML-N has made it clear that it will not oppose PPP’s nominee for prime minister and will support the party in the no-confidence motion.
