Preparations to relocate ‘Rano,’ the bear housed at Karachi Zoo, have entered the final phase, with a specially designed cage now ready for her transfer to Islamabad.

According to members of the 12-member committee overseeing the process, Rano is currently being trained to enter and exit the transport cage, a necessary step to ensure her safe relocation.

Officials said the bear has been responding well to the training, which is expected to be completed within the next few days.

Once the training phase is complete, Rano will be transferred to the “Black Bear Rehabilitation Centre” in Islamabad, where a Deputy Conservator of rank will oversee her care and rehabilitation.

The Sindh government had earlier directed the Sindh Wildlife Department to oversee Rano’s transfer following the orders of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Officials said Rano, who has spent a long time in captivity, will undergo rehabilitation in Islamabad before being shifted to Gilgit-Baltistan, where she will eventually be released into her natural habitat.
