Pakistan receives first-ever US crude oil shipment under new trade accord
In a landmark development, Pakistan has received its first-ever shipment of US crude oil under a new trade agreement between Islamabad and Washington.
The vessel MT Pegasus — the largest US oil tanker to ever dock at a Pakistani port — reached a port in Balochistan, carrying one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude.
MT Pegasus departed from Houston, Texas, on September 14 and arrived at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility in Hub, Balochistan, on Wednesday after completing its transoceanic journey.
Energy company Cnergyico has facilitated the import, marking Pakistan’s first-ever purchase of WTI crude from the United States.
Company officials said a second cargo of American crude oil is expected to arrive by mid-November, while a third shipment is scheduled for 2026.
The latest arrival marks a major milestone in Pakistan-US trade relations and is expected to diversify the country’s energy supply chain.
A Cnergyico spokesperson said the milestone reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s energy resilience while advancing Pakistan-US trade relations.
The arrival of MT Pegasus highlights Pakistan’s strategic move to broaden its crude sourcing options amid evolving global energy dynamics.
