Gas prices likely to rise as companies seek major tariff hikes
A significant increase in gas prices appears likely across the country, as the Sui Northern and Sui Southern gas companies have submitted separate petitions to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) seeking tariff revisions.
According to applications, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has requested a 28.62% increase in gas tariffs, while the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has sought an overall 22% hike, which also includes last year’s outstanding dues.
OGRA is scheduled to hold separate public hearings on the two petitions — SNGPL’s case on November 7 and SSGC’s case on November 11.
Sui Northern’s request covers consumers in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, with an average rise of Rs189 per MMBTU proposed.
