PPP yet to file no-confidence motion against AJK premier

Delay linked to pending decision on new prime minister’s name

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has yet to submit the no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, as the party remains undecided over its nominee for the new prime minister, sources said on Wednesday.

According to party insiders, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is expected to personally announce the name of the new candidate for the AJK premiership.

Under the constitution, the name of the proposed prime minister must be submitted along with the no-confidence motion, which has reportedly delayed the process.

The sources added that the motion is likely to be tabled after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returns to the country, as a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and the prime minister is expected soon to finalise the political strategy.

Meanwhile, AJK Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq has decided to take a firm stance on the no-confidence move.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also decided to file disqualification references against its defecting members in the AJK Assembly.

The sources revealed that following the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) support, concerns have emerged among the forward bloc and refugee members, prompting PPP leaders to hold key meetings on Wednesday to address their reservations.

A day earlier, PPP leader Faryal Talpur met former AJK prime minister Barrister Sultan Mahmood, as part of the party’s ongoing political consultations.
