KP cabinet likely to be unveiled today as CM Afridi awaits Imran Khan’s nod

Sohail Afridi vows not to finalise names without guidance from PTI founder

The new cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to be announced today (Wednesday), according to sources.

Sources in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said that the cabinet will be limited in size, with Mina Khan, Shakeel Khan, Faisal Tarakai, Aqibullah, Fakhar Jehan, and Fazal Shakoor expected to be inducted as ministers.

Muzzammil Aslam is likely to be appointed as Adviser on Finance.

During a recent parliamentary party meeting, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took lawmakers into confidence and discussed suggestions regarding cabinet formation.

The sources added that a final decision on cabinet formation will be taken after Afridi meets Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

Afridi had travelled to Rawalpindi on Tuesday for consultations over cabinet matters, but was not allowed to meet Khan in Adiala Jail.

It was the third time he was denied a meeting with the PTI founder, following which the chief minister briefly staged a sit-in outside the prison.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Afridi said he planned to file a contempt petition in the Islamabad High Court against the restrictions.

He maintained that meeting the PTI founder was his constitutional and political right, as Khan himself had nominated him for the chief minister’s position.

Afridi further stated that he would not announce the cabinet names without first seeking Khan’s guidance, adding that all decisions must reflect party discipline and leadership direction.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khanum — who met her brother in Adiala Jail a day ago — told reporters she had conveyed Khan’s message to Chief Minister Afridi.

According to her, Khan has given Afridi full authority to form his cabinet in line with prevailing circumstances and select his own team.

The PTI founder did not recommend specific names but advised that the cabinet should remain “small and efficient.”

Uzma Khanum added that Khan had expressed concern over delays in internal party matters, particularly the failure to appoint Mahmood Khan Achakzai as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.

She said that all future messages from Khan would now be communicated through PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja to avoid any misunderstandings.

On the other hand, opposition parties in the KP Assembly criticised the PTI government, claiming that administrative affairs in the province have been paralysed due to delays in cabinet formation.

Opposition lawmakers warned that if the situation continues, it could lead to a governance crisis or even a potential imposition of emergency rule in the province.

The political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains tense, with Chief Minister Afridi under pressure to form his cabinet, while the party’s internal decision-making appears stalled amid the continued restriction on meetings with Imran Khan.
