Bilawal to announce new AJK PM today as PPP completes number game
The stage is set for an in-house change in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Assembly, as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has reportedly completed its preparations and is close to securing a majority in the legislative assembly.
According to sources, the PPP has achieved the required majority in the house and finalised a no-confidence motion against incumbent Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq.
According to insiders, the required number of signatures for the no-confidence motion has already been obtained, and it could be presented in the assembly at any time.
The PPP has reportedly finalised its candidate for the new prime minister, whose name is expected to be announced by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari later today.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has also decided to support the motion, though it will not join the new government.
The sources said the PML-N decided to support the no-confidence motion after a party delegation met PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed that while the PML-N would support the motion, it would not join the government.
PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said the objective of the move was to ensure political stability and strengthen the democratic process in Azad Kashmir.
He emphasised that the change was not personal but aimed at improving governance.
The AJK Legislative Assembly currently has 17 PPP members and 9 from the PML-N. With the PML-N’s support, the PPP’s strength would reach 26 votes.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) holds four seats, while the Muslim Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party have one seat each.
Additionally, 20 members belonging to the forward bloc could play a decisive role in the process.
