IHC to hear Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s repatriation case on Oct 29
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday fixed for hearing a case regarding Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s release and return to Pakistan for October 29 before a larger bench.
According to the cause list issued by the IHC registrar’s office, a four-member larger bench has been constituted to hear the case.
The bench will be headed by Justice Arbab Mohammed Tahir and will include Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Justice Azam Khan, and Justice Raja Inam Ameen Minhas.
The previous hearing was cancelled due to the unavailability of one of the bench members.
On September 1, Justice Inam Ameen Minhas referred the file to the IHC chief justice for reconstitution of the larger bench.
Earlier, the case was being heard by Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, who had issued contempt of court notices to the prime minister and members of the federal cabinet during the last hearing.
Following Justice Ejaz Ishaq’s inclusion in a special bench hearing tax-related cases, his pending single-bench cases were transferred to other benches, leading to the reassignment of this matter to the new larger bench.
