Bijou Phillips cuts final ties with Danny Masterson
Bijou Phillips has taken a firm stand in separating herself and her children from Danny Masterson, her former spouse.
In order to formally remove Masterson’s last name from their 11-year-old daughter’s identity, the actress and model filed court documents, according to TMZ on Friday.
According to the report, Phillips requested that her daughter’s name be changed from Fianna Francis Masterson to Fianna Francis Phillips, formally severing her relationship with the disgraced actor.
The ruling was made in September 2023, more than a year after Phillips filed for divorce and just after Masterson was found guilty of raping two women in different cases that began in 2003.
At North Kern State Prison in California, the former That ’70s Show performer is presently incarcerated for 30 years to life.
Initially supporting Masterson throughout his trial, Phillips, 45, frequently attended court appearances with him and even wrote a letter to the judge before sentencing in which he called him a “wonderful parent” and described his relationship with Fianna as “inseparable.”
To protect her daughter and to secure her financial future in the face of possible civil challenges, friends and relatives, according to people who later spoke to the Daily Mail, advised Phillips to quit her relationship with Masterson.
According to one insider, Bijou is also taking this action to safeguard her future and assets. “She doesn’t want a future legal litigation against Danny to cost her money and housing.”
After years of conflict, Phillips announced she had moved on in June 2024 when she was spotted out in public with her new girlfriend, businesswoman Jamie Mazur.
The name change is another step in the actress’s attempt to move past Masterson’s shadow and start a new life for herself and her baby, though neither Phillips’ nor Masterson’s reps have yet to react.
