Punjab CM’s security team undergoes comprehensive screening
A comprehensive screening of all security personnel attached to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s security team has begun, sources said on Saturday.
The move follows a recent government operation against a radical group, and is aimed at conducting a complete background check of all individuals associated with the chief minister’s security detail.
The development comes a day after the federal interior ministry issued a notification banning the hardline organisation for its alleged involvement in acts of terrorism.
The group had recently staged violent protests across Punjab.
Police sources said the screening is being carried out of staff deployed at the chief minister’s residence at Jati Umra to the CM Office, covering not only security officials but also other staff members.
The sources revealed that the process includes an assessment of the religious and political affiliations of personnel.
Any individual found linked to the banned organisation or suspicious group will be immediately removed from duty at the CM Office or Jati Umra.
Police officials claimed that the measure was purely a security precaution to ensure the safety of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz against any potential threats.
Upon completion of the screening process, a comprehensive report will be submitted to senior authorities for review.
